Scientific Method

Students made borders for their Scientific Summer papers. These will get hung up around the room so be sure to read what your peers did this summer!

We then began a review of the scientific method and started to take notes - below are the notes so far:

Scientific Method

1.     State the problem or question
2.     Collect information and observations
3.     Form a hypothesis – educated guess
4.     Experiment
a.     Follow a procedure
b.     ID the independent variable – this is what you change or manipulate. This is what you are testing.  Can only have ONE
c.      ID the dependent variable – the response. This is what you measure.
d.     Control – is constant. This is the part that is NOT changed
Example 1: You are studying the impact of Miracle Grow on plants. The independent variable is the miracle grow. The dependent variable is the growth of the plants.
Example 2: You are studying the impact of withholding affection on rats.  The independent variable is affection. The dependent variable is how the rats react.

There is no homework.
