Happy Halloween!

Students performed a chemistry experiment mixing yeast and hydrogen peroxide. The yeast acts as a catalyst and splits off one of the atoms of oxygen to create a super foaming substance which we had coming out of our small pumpkins mouths!
Have a great safe Halloween

Cylinder density

Students finished up on density of canisters and turned these sheets in today.
Students then began calculating the densities of various cylinders. We will continue with this tomorrow.

Mystery Canisters

We corrected our density sheets from Friday.
Students were then given 3 canisters and needed to make one float, suspend and sink using various objects. They then needed to determine the density of each. This will be continued tomorrow.
There is no homework.

Water Stations Conclusion

Students finished their water stations. Students then took notes on water qualities.
Water is a polar molecule. Surface tension is the cohesion of water on the surface.
Cohesion is the attraction of water molecules to each other. Adhesion is water molecules attaching to other surfaces.

Homework: Students need to write a paragraph grouping the stations by the water properties and explaining what occurred using the appropriate terminology.

Alligator Wrap up

Students received 2 more cards and graph paper.
Card 5 - List the Procedure for this activity step by step
Card 6 - Compare the results of Day 1 to Day 6 specifically the length, mass, and volume
Graphs - Create 3 graphs - 1 for length(cm), 1 for mass(g), and 1 for volume (cm3). You must include the weekend days on the graph even though you won't have anything to plot.
Homework if not finished.

Alligator Wrap up

Students were given 4 index cards. On the first they need to write the problem , the 2nd is their hypothesis, the third is qualitative observations beginning from day 1 and ending at the alligators biggest day and the 4th card is quantitative observations of length, width, height all in cm, mass in g and volume in cm3.
This is homework if not finished.

Matter

Students took their last measurement of their alligators today.
Students then corrected their packets on matter pages 102 - 114
Have a great weekend

Matter

Students began studying matter.
Yesterday I was out of class but students read Matter in their science books pages 102-114 and then worked on worksheets to answer the questions for Sections 1 & 2 only (Sec 3 is later) Today students had some time to work on their sheets.
Homework: If they are not finished they should have checked a book out from me after school OR they can come in the morning.
