Class Traits

Students corrected yesterdays worksheet.
We then collected data on students traits trying to determine whether most of our traits are controlled by dominate alleles or recessive alleles.
Tomorrow we will find out!

Genetics

Students finished reading 76-81 and taking notes on the key terms.
Students then worked on a short worksheet. This is homework if not finished.

Students read and discussed pages 76 - 78 and wrote down the definition of the key terms (bolded) in their spirals. tomorrow we will finish this and do a worksheet pertaining to this section.

Cell Cycle Quiz

Students took a cell cycle quiz and then had a few minutes to practice for their presentations.

Presentation Practice

We corrected our crossword puzzles and then students spent the rest of the period practicing presentations.

Crossword Puzzle

Students completed the backside of yesterdays sheet whish was the crossword puzzle. We then watch a short video on cancer that explains how cell division in cancerous cells is different from cell division in healthy cells.
Homework will be to finish the crossword if not finished in class and study for upcoming cell division quiz.

Cell Cycle

Students completed 13 questions on the cell cycle.
Students then got in their cell cycle presentation groups to work out details.

Mitosis Song/Skit

Students were shown some YouTube videos of Mitosis songs/dance. Students were given some example lyrics for mitosis songs.
Assignment: Students must create a song/dance/skit that demonstrates mitosis.
Students may work alone or in groups.
We will have some time on Monday and Wednesday in class.
Students may record/film themselves at home OR perform live on Friday.
This assignment is due Friday January 25th.

Cell Division

We corrected last night's homework. Students then took a notes on the cell cycle.- the name of each stage, the phases and the most important events in that phase. There is no homework.

Cell Cycle

Students received a cell cycle sheet to complete using pages 55 - 62.
Most finished in class but it is homework if not completed.
As always students may check books out after school and/or use the online book.

Vocab Squares

Students began work on their vocab squares. They may choose any 4 of the 6 key terms on page 55 of the cell book. This will need to be finished for homework.

Measuring for vocab squares

Instead of giving the students printed paper for vocab squares I decided to employ measuring skills and have students measure to create their own papers. Most students need practice with ruler use and definitely dividing fractions in half. Great activity. Tomorrow we will start on the actual vocab.

Cell Presentations

Today was another day of cell presentations and then we were able to partake in some of those wonderful edible cells.
Again, Great Job!

Cell Projects

WOW! Fabulous cells! We got through about half of our presentation of our projects today. The other half will be on Wednesday. Great job!

Cell Test

Students took the cell test today.
Reminder: Cell Projects due Monday!!

Cell Review

We reviewed everything that will be on tomorrow's test.
Students also received a  study guide to complete and study from to help them with the test.
There will be a review session from 7:30-8:00 tomorrow morning.  All may attend at any time.

Coloring Cells

Students reviewed organelles of a cell.
Students then finished coloring their cells.

If students did not finish  coloring cells than it is homework.
